Stars All In At Draft
September 19, 2018
Stars GM Decelles went all in during this weekends draft to fill up the prospect pipeline.

"As predicted, this draft was all over the map. We felt there was still some great prospects available in the late rounds and pulled the trigger on some deals to grab them." said Decelles during the post draft media scrum.

The Stars draft strategy was evident early on - draft talent that can join the team in the next 2 years.

With the 28th pick the Stars selected silky Swedish winger Jesper Bratt. This smooth skater with a heavy shot will likely see some time with the Stars this year. The 20 year old will certainly find himself as a top six forward in short order.

With the first of 3 second round picks, the Stars selected Hobey Baker award winner Adam Gaudette. The centreman from Northeastern University led the NCAA in goals and points. Pegged as a middle six player who can chip in offensively, Gaudette should push for a roster spot next season.

With pick #41 the Stars looked to the QMJHL and selected offensive d-man Nicolas Beaudin. This puck mover with 69 points in 68 games will continue to ply his trade in Junior with a shot at playing for Canada at the WJC's.

Pick #54 saw GM Decelles go off the board and grab WCHA Defensive Player of the Year; Daniel Brickley. Standing at 6'3, Brickley combines size and a head for the game and looks to be NHL ready.

The Stars completed a trade to pick up pick #64 and used it on puck magician Ruslan Ishkakov. The 5'8 forward oozes puck skill and can think the game at an elite level.

The Stars also completed a trade to pick up 4 4th round picks and loaded up on skilled forwards; Cole Fonstad, Allan Mcshane, Blake Mclaughlin and Aidan Dudas.

With their final pick of the draft, the Stars selected Giovanni Vallati of the OHL's Kitchener Rangers.

The prospect pipeline is deep and it remains to be seen if Decelles' gamble will pay off. The Stars only find themselves with 2 picks for 2019.
