Kings 2019 Draft Recap
September 12, 2019
Going to the draft with 15 picks, useless to say that a lot of work was done to prepare. That being said, being how unpredictable a draft can be, lots of the scenarios went straight to the garbage bin!

1st round: Based on their predictions, LA was ready to welcome Zegras with the 5th pick. Edmonton changed all this by selecting Dach. So GM Audet rushed to the stage after SJ's pick to select Turcotte before Edmonton could claim draftool glitch and ask for a redo. A strong run on forwards with the top 13 picks left LA scrambling at 14 and decided to go with needs instead of BPA by selecting speedy center Tomasino. With the 28th pick, LA had Bemstrom pegged there all year, until Vegas moved up and selected him at 22. Apparently what happens in Vegas doesn't always stays in Vegas! So, then we selected Hoglander, a sneaky little goal scorer who we can see score 30 next to a certain center in Vancouver.

After assessing how the draft was going, GM Audet decided to move a 3rd and a 4th for pick 51. We then decided to go for all the players we like, disregarding their nhl draft rank. So with 5 picks in the 2nd, LA selected Nick Robertson, Samuel Fagemo, Pavel Dorofeyev, Patrick Puistola.

When the 60th pick arrived, GM Audet decided to hire his first goalie scout in 3 years, hence the picks of Mads Sogaard at 60, Hugo Alnefelt at 91, Ilya Konovalov at 92, Veini Vehvilainen at 101 and Artyom Zagidulin at 132. GM Audet feels the goalie pipeline has no more room now and fired said scout after that pick.

Finally, we selected Mickey Anderson and Domenick Fensore on defense, and swang for the fences with big 6'4 russing winger Mikhail Shalagin.

GM Audet feels confident that after the last 2 drafts, and Chytil and Poehling drafted in 2017, the rebuild is finished and now it's time to wait and watch who makes it to the show. That being said, can't wait to make our 1st round pick next year :)
