Blues Fans Give Ben Bishop Standing O After Game 7
May 12, 2020
Blues GM, Marco Gil, knew his team was not going to see an easy round in these playoffs. The Blackhawks were a very dangerous team heading into the playoffs with a lot of talent spread out throughout their roster.

One had to look no further than the first two games where the Blues were stuneed going down 2-0 in the series. But then, as they've done all year long, Tavares and Mathews turned it up a notch peppering Ben Bishop with more shots than he's probably seen all year long.

In fact, the Blues outshot the Hawks 253 to 172 in this series. Bishop faced on average 36 shots per game. In game 6 and 7, two of the most critical games of the series, he faced 41 and 44 shots.

Despite the Blues dramatic OT win in game 7 on a Mathews power play goal, his 7th goal in as many games, Blues fans stood up and started chanting Bishop showing the goaltender the respect he deserved. Here was a goalie who almost single handedly won the series for the Blackhawks. That's not to take away from the rest of the roster, but when your team was outshot 39-10, 41-21, and 44-32 in the final 3 games of the series, you have to give the kid mad respect!

With the team advancing, things do not get any easier. The Avalanche finished among leaders this season and will be another formidable opponent. What will be interesting to watch is whether Tavares and Mathews can continue to be the league leading scoring tandem they were all season long. If they do, it could mean good things to come for this revamped Blues squad.
