Dubnyk Shows "Minor" Improvement In Round 2 Game 1
May 13, 2020
The Boston Bruins won game round of their division final playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs on the back of a 27 save performance from Devan Dubnyk. That was exactly 27 more saves than he made in game one of the opening playoff round.

The Bruins opened the scoring on a booming slapshot from Radko Gudas for his first of the playoffs. This came at the end of a wonderful shift by the Bruins fourth line of Gabriel Bourque, Sean Kuraly and Denis Malgin. The line spent almost a full minute cycling the puck and taking shots on the Leafs net. They kept missing the net but retrieving the puck until Bourque saucered a feed to Gudas who wired it home.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins followed the Gudas goal up with his 3rd of the playoffs late in the first period. The Bruins then locked it down for the rest of the game with the exception of Dennis Cholowski's 2nd of the playoffs scored on a powerplay late in the 3rd period.

The Leafs outshot the Bruins 28 to 26 but the Bruins dominated 5 on 5 play and had 24 shots compared to only 21 for the Leafs. Erik Karlsson led all skaters with 25:45 of ice time. The Bruins expect him to wear out over the course of the series if he has to continue to play this much. Brent Burns led the Bruins with 21:06.

Game two goes tonight.
