The Calgary Flames and the Los Angeles King completed a deal Friday that has been in the works for a better part of 2-months. Flames dealt young goaltender Jusse Saros and Calgary’s 2018 1st Round Pick (24th Overall) for goal scoring winger Jason Zucker.

Zucker comes to Calgary with the expectation on helping the team score more goals this year. Overall, one of the key objectives with the team was to find a player with term on his contract that would complement the Flames 1-2 punch of Barkov and Eichel up the middle. With Gaudreau and Rakell already in the fold, Zucker seems like a natural fit, adding pure goal scoring capabilities to an already deep line up.

“We want to be a run and gun style of team. We feel with Freddy Andersen between the pipes and a strong core of defensemen, we can focus our forwards on being one of the most dynamic in the league. The addition of Zucker really compliments our wingers nicely and now gives some great depth on our top 3-lines. Our 2nd line was good last year; we feel we know have the flexibility for the team to be great.”

It will be interesting to see how the Flames deploy their top three lines this season and who plays with Jack Eichel and who plays with Sasha Barkov. With a good combination of scoring, puck handling speed and defensive awareness, Flames feel they are one of the most balanced teams in the league heading into the 2018/2019 season.

“Barkov and Gaudreau were amazing together last year but we are not sure if they will continue to play together or not. With the continued emergence of Rakell and now Zucker in the fold, we will be using training camp to look at team and line chemistry to see what clicks and what does not. None the less, we are excited to start the season.”

Flames are now focused on dealing F Brandon Dubinsky for the best draft pick offered. Contact GM Davidson with any offers.
